Marine Safety Essentials for Recreational Powerboats

This course is a comprehensive and practical program designed for individuals operating recreational powerboats up to 8 metres in length. This course aims to equip participants, including fishers, divers, families, and water-sports enthusiasts, with essential knowledge and skills to ensure safe boating experiences on the water.

Description

Through interactive sessions and simulated scenarios, participants will learn the importance of preparation and planning, effective communication using marine devices, and proper usage of safety and floatation equipment. The course covers emergency distress procedures, navigation techniques using GPS, and proficient boat handling, including anchoring and manoeuvring.

Additionally, participants will gain insights into boat maintenance, understanding emergency situations such as fire safety, and the significance of complying with regulations and laws governing recreational boating. The course also emphasises environmental stewardship and social responsibilities in promoting ethical boating behavior and respecting other water users.

  • Manoeuvring and Anchoring Techniques: Mastering boat handling and anchoring, Boat Ramps, Trailers, Launching, and Retrieval.
  • Best practices for boat handling on land.
  • Maintenance: Importance of regular boat maintenance.
  • Understanding Emergency Situations: Awareness of potential emergencies, including fire safety.
  • Social Responsibilities: Ethical boating behaviour and environmental responsibility.
